An upright, dense pyramidal form often becoming broader with age. Shears exceptionally well. Great for privacy screens and hedges. Sometimes forms impenetrable thickets. The foliage is flat, scale like and dark green turning bronze in winter. Partial shade tolerant. Prefers moist well drained soils but will grow in wet soils. Great for wildlife. Wonderfully fragrant. Often found growing in rocky soils in the wild.
